Snippetson in the Spotlight |
The emergence of former brilliant sprinter Snowland as a Group One producing
sire has done much to enhance the prospects of his stakes-winning full brother
Snippetson, whose first weanlings have sold for up to $80,000.

Snippetson has covered 320 mares in his two seasons at Widden so far achieving
a 90% fertility rate and those mares include the dams of Group One stars
Absolut Glam, Triple Honour, Sniper’s Bullet and this year’s Singapore Derby
winner, Top Spin.

Northern Derbies Offer Food for Thought
|
Northern Dancer domination has been the subject of a few
recent articles on Breednet and a look at the results of all the major derbies
contested in the Northern Hemisphere this year, plus the US Triple Crown, would
indicate it’s a phenomenon that’s not going away any time soon.
Coolmore sires Galileo and Montjeu feature prominently,
continuing the dominance of their sire Sadler’s Wells, who has been a peerless
source of Classic horses in Europe since the ‘80s.
Not seen as a particularly successful sire of sires in the
earlier part of his career, Sadler’s Wells has come into his own now and in
Australia it’s hard to bag his sire son Scenic (IRE), who has done an
outstanding job for a very long time until his premature death in 2005, having
arrived here in the same shuttle intake as Danehill. More ...

Danehill Saves Best for Last
|
The recent heroics of Coolmore owned Danehill entire Duke of Marmalade
highlight the loss of his legendary sire, who died prematurely in Ireland at
age 17 when at the very height of his stud career.
A horse who made his name first in Australia, Danehill took a while to his
straps in Europe, but with his last crop of Northern Hemisphere foals now four
year-olds he’s showing exactly what he could do when mated to some of the best
mares in the world.
At the time of his death in May of 2003, Danehill had just come off a bumper
season in the Northern Hemisphere in 2002 featuring Group One stars Rock of
Gibraltar, Landseer, Banks Hill, Aquarelliste, Fine Motion, Spartacus and Dress
to Thrill.

Sydney Race 6 No. 6 Danehill Smile.
Has been off the scene for a long time but has trialled well in preparation for return and is well worth watching and following out of this race.

CRAIG TOMPSON
Academy Magic - Sydney Race 4 No 2
Doesn't look an easy race but his runs have been good and a chance he'll be the value runner. He's certainly good enough to win.
