One of the greatest thoroughbred stallions in recent times, legendary Japanese based sire Sunday Silence has been in the news this year with a global treble of Classic winners for his sire sons and the arrival in Australia of his dual Group One winning son Hat Trick (Jpn) at Independent Stallions in Victoria.

Winner of the 1989 Kentucky Derby and Breeders Cup Classic, Sunday Silence was the one that got away for the North Americans, sold to stud in Japan where he became a superstar for Shadai Farm.

Since the immortal sire Lexington (1861-1874), only two stallions have led a general sire list for twelve consecutive years or more-Sadler’s Wells (1992-2004) in England/ Ireland and SUNDAY SILENCE (1995 to present) in Japan.

Crowned Champion Three Year Old and US Horse of the Year, Sunday Silence was originally slated to retire to Stone Farm in 1991 at a fee of $50,000, but with only luke warm interest from American breeders in the son of Halo, an offer of around $10million from Japan was accepted and thoroughbred history changed course.

Samantha Family Breeds Success

Last season’s champion two year-old filly Samantha Miss is a card carrying member of the ‘blue-bloods club’ having fetched the tidy sum of $1.5 million when offered by Willow Park Stud at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, but with a Group One triumph on her resume and the distinct promise of more to come, the daughter of Redoute’s Choice is one expensive yearling who has proven to be worth every penny.

One of 13 Group One winners for Australia’s most expensive sire Redoute’s Choice, Samantha Miss combines the blood of two champion sires as her unraced dam Milliyet (NZ), is by the great New Zealand sire Zabeel.

Sire Tracker Focus on Golden Rose

The Breednet Sire Prospect Tracker provides an updated list of potential stallions and with spring racing really starting to get rolling it’s well worth a look to see who the key players are.

The Group Two STC Golden Rose is a million dollar race and a forerunner to the big Group Ones to follow, so for the Red Ransom (USA) colts Duporth and All American a victory could prove a great commercial boost.

After two promising efforts at two, Duporth has blossomed this preparation to win the Group Three AJC San Domenico Stakes and was a good thing beaten last Saturday when third in the Group Three AJC Up and Coming Stakes.

Saw nothing last week to put me off. Think he's a good horse on his way through the ranks.
