Super Saturday Sparks the Return of Opportunity

Arrowfield Super Saturday at Royal Randwick last week might not have been blessed with the sunshine and warm spring weather we would have liked, but there was racing and there were horses, a far cry from 12 months ago when Sydneysiders could do nothing but look on as Melbourne moved forward with their carnival while we grappled with EI.

Super Saturday at Randwick showcased 10 Black Type events - four Group Ones, a pair of Group Twos, a Group Three and three Listed races – that means 30 horses had the opportunity to gain Black Type and enhance their family, promote their sire, vendor, buyer, auction house, etc, not to mention returning prizemoney to their connections.

When you look at it that way it serves to highlight the massive losses to the breeding industry from not having that one spectacular day of racing last year (let alone the entire Sydney spring carnival!) and it’s the sort of loss that is impossible to quantify.

A Winner and a New Foal for Gold Lottey

Former classy racemare Gold Lottey has had a busy couple of weeks producing a gorgeous new foal by Commands and also her first winner on the track in Crucible.

Now aged ten, Gold Lottey was from the very first crop of foals sired by Encosta de Lago and was one of his first youngsters to make an impression and indeed holds the honour of being the very first winner he sired, saluting on debut in a juvenile maiden on November 1, 2000.

Gold Lottey went on to become a quality performer winning six races and $565,425 in prizemoney highlighted by wins in the Group Three VRC The Vanity and MVRC Stocks Stakes, bowing out of her career just the way she started it with a win in the Listed AJC Wiggle Quality.

New Additions and D-Day

With spring racing in full swing the Breednet Sire Prospect Tracker is seeing plenty of action with three new horses added after last Saturday and the Caulfield Guineas this weekend spelling D-Day for a number of high profile prospects.

Boom colt Von Costa de Hero is probably under the most pressure to perform in the Guineas having earned a high rating last season at two with a win in the Group Two VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and a close second to Sebring in the Group One STC Golden Slipper.
