Best in the West – MM Perth 2009

The dust will not have had time to settle in Sydney at the conclusion of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale before the start of the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, which kicks off on Tuesday February 11 running for three days and featuring 440 lots.

With no break between the two sales, many buyers will have to choose one or the other and the win of Perth MM graduate Scenic Blast in the Group One VRC Lightning Stakes at Flemington last Saturday was certainly a timely reminder of the quality of horse that can come out of the West.

Read on to see what’s on offer at MM Perth 2009.

I Want to Buy…….

This is a part of our ongoing series of articles leading up to the 2009 sales and the focus this week is on the 2009 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale (Feb 11, 12 & 13) next week, where we will attempt to highlight five yearlings that ON PAPER at least, appeal as being suitable for a specific goal and this week we’re looking for the next superstar from the West.

Scenic Blast winning the Group One VRC Lightning Stakes at Flemington last Saturday is probably all you need to remind you of the great horses that have come out of Western Australia in recent years including Horse of the Year winners Miss Andretti and Northerly, not to mention the likes of Marasco, Plastered, etc.

Caulfield Card Can Spark Sire Tracker Action

A crackerjack program at Caulfield on Sunday could spark some movement in the Breednet Sire Prospect Tracker with one boom colt trying for his first Group One victory, a couple of smart three year-olds laying claim to the Australian Guineas and several juvenile colts out to improve their standing for the Group One MRC Blue Diamond Stakes.

Darley owned Von Costa de Hero will have another crack at the older horses in the Group One MRC C.F. Orr Stakes and will need to be on his best behaviour if he’s to match strides with the likes of Cox Plate winners Maldivian and El Segundo.
