Small Miracles
The death of a broodmare and or foal is always tragic and as sad as it is, it’s a scenario that is very much a part of every breeding season, but from just such a tragedy has come a small miracle at Rosari Farm, a boutique breeding operation near Warwick in Queensland.
Due to have their first foals this spring at Rosari were two young mares, the stakes-placed Lion Hunter mare Grey Stream and another well-related Catbird mare in Acinonyx, whose grand-dam is the former champion filly Toltrice.
Both mares delivered fillies, Grey Stream a bay by General Nediym and Acinonyx a chestnut by Husson (Chi) and everything looked rosy, but shortly after giving birth Grey Stream haemorrhaged and died leaving two foals and one mare. Read more
