Youthful Presence the Gift That Keeps on Giving for Darley

When Darley purchased the Ingham family’s Woodlands Stud lock stock and barrel in 2008 one of the broodmares inherited was the unraced Dehere mare Youthful Presence and what a wonderful servant she proved to be.

All nine of her foals to reach the track are winners led by the Group 1 Epsom Handicap winner Hauraki (Reset), the Group 1 South Australian Derby winner Kidnapped (Viscount), the Group II Western Australian Guineas winner and Group 1 BRC TJ Smith Stakes this Academus (Lonhro) and the Listed Hill Smith Stakes winner Deledio (Test Rossa).Lonhro image Mark Smith

The final two foals Youthful Presence left before her death in 2017 are by the final Woodlands stallion left on the Darley roster, the magnificent Lonhro.

The penultimate foal is the 4yo gelding Suave who won his first two starts as an odds on favourite at Hawkesbury and Wyong but has not been seen out since finishing fourth behind Jen Rules at Rosehill last November.

The final foal of Youthful Presence is Criaderas who kept his record at a perfect two for two with a last to first performance at Kembla Grange on Tuesday.

The 3yo son of Lonhro was settled back in the field from his wide gate by Kathy O’Hara.

When angled out to the centre of the track down the straight, the James Cummings-trained gelding picked off runner after runner for a two and a half-length score over You're Next (Dream Ballad) with Ranges (Shooting To Win) a neck back in third.

Criaderas made a winning career debut at Newcastle back on April 11.

Darley is breeding with two daughters of Youthful Presence, the winning Canny Lad mare Teenager and the winning Sepoy mare Nipotina.

Teenager is in foal to Lonhro’s Danehill Stakes winner Encryption while Nipotina visited Lonhro last spring.

Godolphin parted ways with the unraced Bernardini (USA) x Youthful Presence mare Vertal for $160,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. She was back in the ring less than 12 months later when consigned by  Rothwell Park to the 2018 Inglis Chairmans Sale where was knocked down to Koru Thoroughbreds for $200,000 with a Reset filly at foot and carrying a filly foal by Divine Prophet.

The Rest filly made $105,000 at Karaka in 2019 and the Divine Prophet $150,000 at the dame sale this year.
