Looks
can sometimes be deceiving which is why one of the cheapest yearlings from the
first crop of Group I winner All American became his seventh winner at Kembla
on Tuesday.
Prepared by David Payne, two year-old gelding The Big Rig finished fourth and
second at his first two runs before being sent as favourite today for the 1400
metre juvenile maiden.
Running up to the expectation of punters, The Big Rig strode clear to win by
two lengths providing a great result for his owners.
The Big Rig was a modest $5,000 purchase from the Hazelwood Place draft at the
Inglis Classic Winter Book Sale and has already won more than $22,000 in
prizemoney.
He is the first foal of Catalina Winemixer, an unraced three-quarter sister by
Stratum to Group I New Zealand Derby winner Redoute's Dancer.
Catalina Winemixer was one of 120 mares covered last spring by All American,
who is off to a pleasing start to his stud career.
A Group I winning son of Red Ransom (USA), All American is the sire of seven
winners headed by stakes-winner Bachman and stands at Arrowfield Stud this
spring at a fee of $16,500.
