Husson's Vanna Girl Opens Stakes Account - What a Bonny Filly She Is

Mark Smith - Saturday May 9

The three-year-old Husson (ARG) filly Vanna Girl is building an imposing record and her win over the boys in Saturday’s Listed Sky Racing Doomben Guineas (1615m) has earned her a shot at the Group II The Roses in June.Vanna Girl image Racing Qld

Ridden by Matthew McGillivray for trainers Toby and Trent Edmonds, Vanna Girl prevailed in a length of the straight battle with Michael Costa’s game Supergiant (Red Giant) by a neck with Ballistic Boy (Smart Missile) a length back in third.

"She's exceeded all our expectations, she was a $40,000 purchase and after today has over $200,000 in the bank after eight starts, what a fantastic little money-spinner," Toby Edmonds said.

"She's quite deep into her preparation we really had to stretch out her runs to keep her up for a race like this it's been a big effort from a lightly raced three-year-old."Vanna Girl a $40,000 Inglis Classic Yearling

"The Roses is her target. Before Covid-19 we were looking at the Oaks but with that not being an option we'll push on.

"She's such a versatile filly, With gate one today we were able to ride her right up on speed Matty (McGillivray) gave her the trip we wanted, but under different circumstances, you could ride her back and run on as well.

"She's still going great at home and as we saw today racing as good as ever. At this stage, we'll keep her in until she tells us she needs a break."

A bargain $40,000 purchase by Edmonds Racing out of the Vinery Stud draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Vanna Girl advances her record to 5 wins and 2 seconds from 8 starts with earnings of $203,100.

She is the fifth winner from six to race out of the talented Redoute’s Choice mare Logan’s Choice who was a $250,000 Easter Yearling out of the Dehere mare De Souba a half-sister to the outstanding, triple Group 1 winner Naturalism and the Group 1 Queensland Oaks winner Crystal Palace the dam of the dual Group II winner Palacio de Critstal.

Vanna Girl is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Plucky Girl (Pluck) another great stalwart of the Edmonds stable who banked over $308,725 from a record of 8 wins, 7 seconds and 4 thirds from 23 starts

Logan's Choice has a yearling filly and a weanling colt by Star Turn.

Vanna Girl becomes the 16th stakes-winner for Aquis Farm’s Husson (ARG) who will cover this year at just $5,500.
