First winner for Star Thoroughbreds and Chris Waller

Tom Walter - Monday July 21

Syndicator Star Thoroughbreds and premier trainer Chris Waller enjoyed their first winner together when Long Kiss prevailed in Sunday's A View Turf - Matilda Handicap (1300m) at Hawkesbury.

After parting ways with Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse earlier this year, Star Thoroughbreds forged a new association with Waller.

The purple and white stars saw multiple successes on the racetrack with Waterhouse, including Sebring's 2008 Group I Golden Slipper triumph, five Group I victories to star galloper Theseo, and Driefontein's break-through Group I win in this year's Sportingbet Classic.

Whilst some Star Thoroughbreds horses have remained with Waterhouse, the majority are now under the tutelage of Waller.

It had been more than six months since Long Kiss last tasted victory but with the services of in-form jockey Tye Angland, the daughter of Lonhro was able to win the 1300 metre class 1 event by 1-3/4 lengths.

The win of Long Kiss followed a Star Thoroughbreds-Waterhouse victory in the opening race on the Hawkesbury card with debutant Echo Prince.

At Rosehill on Monday morning, it was back to business for Star Thorouhgbreds and Waller as Breeders' Plate winners Whittington and Law trialed ahead of their respective spring campaigns.

Whittington narrowly won his 900 metre heat for three-year-olds under the steering of Angland while Law, also ridden by Angland, finished fourth in a juvenile heat over 900 metres.
