Stakes Winner 22 for Al Maher

Mark Smith - Saturday July 26

Not many mares open their stakes account with their 12thfoal so Chase The Chick joined an exclusive club when the Phillip Stokes-trained Buddy Bundy opened his stakes account in Saturday's Listed Programmed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.

The 3-year-old son of Al Maher has been a model of consistency in his short career to date.

His nine starts have yielded six wins a second and a third while banking $192,500.

But the short-priced favourite had to pull out all stops to hold off the Blevic gelding Herenoa by a short-half-head.

Pistolier made it a trifecta for the 3-year olds with the two 2-year olds Pink Perfection and Cautious finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Consigned by Ducatoon Park to the 2012 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling sale, Buddy Bundy left the ring unsold when failing to make his $20,000 reserve.

A half-brother to seven winners, his dam Chase The Chick (Kenmare) is a stakes-placed daughter of stakes-winning Vain mare Paris Look the granddam of Group 1 Epsom Handicap winner Excellerator, Group III Packer Plate winner Yallingup and Listed winner Artistic.

Buddy Bundy is the final foal of Chase The Chick who was pensioned in January 2012 after missing to Flying Spur.

The daughter of Kenmare was courted by some of the top stallions in the business including Marscay, Peintre Celebre (USA) and Galileo (IRE) so a feather in the cap for Emirates Park Stud's Al Maher (pictured) who chalked up his 22nd stakes-winner.

The Group 1 winning son of Danehill stands at Emirates Park in 2014 at a fee of $16,500 having covered 115 mares last spring at the same fee.
