Invincible Sons Take Catching

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 28
In Australia this season we have seen unheralded Invincible Spirit (IRE) son I Am Invincible dominate his more fancied first season peers and in Europe they are seeing a similar phenomenon with another Invincible Spirit son in Zebedee recently posting his 20th first crop winner.

ZebedeeA brilliant Group II winning juvenile that won six of seven starts at two before retiring to Tally Ho Stud in Ireland, Zebedee has been churning out the winners led by unbeaten colt Ivawood, who won the Group II July Stakes at Newmarket by nearly three lengths for the Richard Hannon stable.

Always expected to produce precocious types as he was himself, Zebedee has been making every post a winner.

UK Racing Post reported Racebets have reacted to this spate of success by cutting Zebedee into 6-4 to be leading first-season sire in Europe this year by number of individual winners.

He was 9-4 early last week before being cut to 2-1 and then 13-8.

Zebedee has also been trimmed to 7-2 from 7-1 in the market to be leading first-season sire in Europe by prize-money.

Invincible SpiritZebedee stands at a modest fee of 5,000 euros, so his achievements so far this season mirror the success of our own I Am Invincible, who has been a revelation for Yarraman Park off his initial fee of $11,000.

With just three days of the season to run, I Am Invincible has 17 winners on the board (two in New Zealand), five of them stakes-winners, and will cover a full book this year at the increased fee of $27,500.

A Group I winning sprinter by Green Desert, Invincible Spirit is going from strength to strength at age 17 as a sire of sires with his classy son Lawman now a proven Group I producing sire and another son in Kingman, widely regarded as the best three year old miler in Europe this year.

It's hard to believe Invincible Spirit shuttled to Victoria for four seasons at the start of his stud career standing for as little as $11,000!

At least he has left us a triple Group I winner in Yosei and a scintillating young sire in I Am Invincible and for that we can be eternally grateful.
