Star Witness Opens Favourite

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 13
The market is up for betting on the leading Australian First Season by winners for 2014/2015 with Sportingbet installing dual Group I winner Star Witness as favourite.

Star Witness"Star Witness was a quality two year-old and after standing for $33k should have plenty of quality foals that are up and ready to race," said Andrew Brown of Sportingbet.com.au

Based at Widden Stud, Star Witness has proven popular with breeders and with 37 of his two year-olds entered for the Golden Slipper, his stock have obviously pleased since being broken in.

"Rothesay has the most foals with 118, so has the potential to rack up plenty of winners in Queensland if they are early runners, while Reward For Effort was an early running two year-old that won the Blue Diamond and from all reports his progeny are progressing well on the track and are set to follow in Dad's footsteps," Brown added.

"Congrats could be the surprise packet. He was Champion First Season Sire in the US and has 107 foals on the ground here, so his progeny can certainly chalk up plenty of early wins.

"Starspangledbanner would probably have been an unbackable favourite if he had more foals, based on his first season performance in the UK."
