As
a full brother to Group I winner Romantic Touch, Gooree Stud would have high
hopes for this three year-old, who bolted in at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The Anthony Cummings trained Burning Passion was a spelled after finishing an encouraging
second to highly rated colt Sarajevo and resumed two weeks ago to finish a
close third to Diamond Valores as favourite.
A fitter competitor this time around and fitted with blinkers for the first
time, the son of Northern Meteor was a different horse for Tye Angland. He
jumped smartly and put himself into the race before dashing right away to win
the 1200 metre maiden by three lengths as a red hot favourite.
"I liked the way he went about his job, the blinkers really switched him on,"
said Anthony Cummings.
"There are some nice three year-old races coming up and I'm not sure just yet
where he fits into the scheme of things."
Burning Passion is entered for the Group I ATC Golden Rose and MRC Caulfield
Guineas, so will be stepping up in grade sooner rather than later with Tye Angland
pleased with his performance.
"He did it very easy and was the winner a long way out," he said.
A hombred for Gooree Stud, Burning Passion is a full brother to Group I BRC JJ
Atkins Stakes winner Romantic Touch and is the third winner from three foals to
race for metropolitan winning Snippets mare Dearness, a half-sister to Group I
stars Desert War and Laser Hawk.
Dearness has a yearling colt by another of the young Gooree Stud bred sires in
Smart Missile, who stands at Arrowfield Stud, and is due to foal to champion sire Fastnet
Rock.
