Renowned
owner/breeder Gerry Harvey might have made the mistake of selling dual Group I
winner Samaready as a yearling, but he did keep her three year-old half-sister Samartested
and she saluted at Sandown on Wednesday.
Prepared by Mick Price as was her star older sibling, Samartested had two
previous runs for a second on debut and then a win at Geelong before taking on
tougher company for this 1400 metre midweek test.
Given a sweet ride by Craig Newitt, she darted through between horses and then
fought doggedly to the line to win by a head.
"She's done a good job for her first preparation as she is only a slight filly
and has probably gone about as far as she can go this time," Price said.
"She needs to improve before she can chase Black Type, but she has her whole
three year-old season ahead of her."
A half-sister by Testa Rossa to Samaready (winner of the Group I MRC Blue Diamond
Stakes and MVRC AV Moir Stakes) and Group II winner Night War, Samartested is
one of six winners from six to race from exceptional producer Samar, who died
last year.
The daughter of Secret Savings (USA) leaves behind a two year-old Exceed and
Excel colt and a yearling colt by Samaready's sire More Than Ready (USA) that
has been entered for Magic Millions 2015.
