Cosmic Gossip Keeps the Run Going for Spill The Beans

Mark Smith - Saturday May 23

Most punters were confident that Spill The Beans would sire the winner of  the opener over 1200 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday but for the majority it was the wrong one.

A winner at the Sunshine Coast in January, the Stuart Kendrick-trained filly Cosmic Gossip finished midfield in her two starts last time in.

From an outside alley, Cosmic Gossip was settled back at the tail by Matthew McGillivray and still had plenty to do when turning into the straight.

Coming with a determined finish down the centre of the track, the daughter of Spill The Beans eased past the stubborn Ready For Magic (Better Than Ready) to win by a short-neck with the favourite Tumbler Ridge (Spill The Beans) two and three-quarter lengths back in third.

“She will take a lot of improvement out of this, she only had one soft trial the other day,” Kendrick said.

“We gave her a freshen up after her last run here. She was probably ridden a bit upside down that day. Matty won a good two-year-old race on her at home and she did a similar thing coming from last.Cosmic Gossip was an $80,000 Magic Millions Yearling

“I’m really happy with her and she’ll improve a lot. She’s nominated for the JJ (Atkins), I know every second horse is going that way, but we might roll the dice and have a go.”

Purchased by Aquis Farms Pty Ltd/Kendrick Racing for $80,000 out of the Raheen Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Cosmic Gossip advances her record to 2 wins and 2 seconds from 7 starts with earnings of $191,025.

A half-sister to the Listed VRC Anzac Day Stakes winner Throssell, Cosmic Gossip is the ninth foal of the Anabaa mare O' Venus who is a half-sister to the group III VATC Thoroughbred Club Stakes winner Vigil.

Cosmic Gossip continues the good run being enjoyed by Aquis Farm’s ill-fated stallion Spill The Beans has had three winners in the last five days.

The son of Snitzel leads the way for number of individual winners with ten.
