New Winner for Duporth

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 21

Upon saluting at Northam on Thursday, Backdrop today became the 8th winner for exciting young outcross sire Duporth (Red Ransom), and is the 5th winner for his sire from the Danehill-line.

Back Drop is one of three winners for Duporth out of Flying Spur (Danehill) mares, joining New Zealand Stake's performer Two Over One, and Advertencia. Duporth's only runner out of a Danzero (Danehill) mare is Penzance – a winner on debut at 2yrs. His only runner out of a Danehill (Danzig) mare, Mamaroochy, has won once and placed once from just three starts to-date.

Cornrow, a leading juvenile last season and the highest-rated 2YO by a first season sire, earned a Timeform rating of 117 on the back of placings in the G1 Sires' Produce Stakes, G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, G2 Todman Stakes and the Blue Diamond Preview. He is the only runner to-date for Duporth out of an Exceed and Excel (Danehill) mare.

Backdrop's 2YO full brother is in training with Peter and Paul Snowden. They are expecting him to race in early 2YO Stakes races. The Snowdens also train the talented Duporth 3YO Inkling. The two-time winner, who was 3rd in The Rosebud on his last start when carrying top weight, will be aimed at the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes later in the Spring.

DuporthWith 8 3YOs nominated for the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas, it looks like Duporth may well have an exciting spring ahead.

Duporth's sire Red Ransom (Roberto) proved to be the ultimate outcross for the proliferation of Northern Dancer-line mares in Australia. Already, at this early stage in his career, Duporth is shaping up to be his sire's heir apparent (and just look at the physical similarities between the two, both pictured above).

Like Duporth, Red Ransom was a leading first season sire in Australia.

He went on to sire over 100 individual Stakes winners and 15 Group 1 winners, including Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy.
