As Handsome as He is Fast

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 27
Exceptional good looks and exceptional speed made this first season sire a big hit with broodmare owners last weekend during the Hunter Valley stallion parades.

Newgate Farm have taken a punt in adding a shuttle sire to their burgeoning roster, but when you take one look at The Factor (USA) it's not hard to see why.

Beneath the glamorous dapple grey coat, is the serious physique of a dual Group I winning sprinter, who consistently broke 10 seconds in training gallops with Bob Baffert. - All images of The Factor by Lisa Grimm.

"As a multiple Group 1 winner and record-breaking two-year-old, The Factor was an outstanding racehorse, but what attracted us most to him was how perfectly he suits Australian breeding," said Henry Field.

"He was brilliantly fast, so fast that his hall-of-fame trainer, Bob Baffert, described him a 'freak' and the fastest horse that he has ever trained.

"On the racecourse, The Factor did nothing to change this opinion. He broke his maiden in sensational style, out of the barriers like a rocket and just running clean away from his rivals for an easy eight-length triumph.

"He went on to be a multiple Grade 1 winner, taking the Malibu Stakes in another clock-smashing performance, and marked himself as the leading 3YO sprinter in America with a top-class win over the older sprinters in the O'Brien Stakes.

"His speed is not just evidenced by his trophies, but also by some of the fastest times in history, his six-furlong clocking of 1:06 4/5 marking him as one of the fastest 1200m horses ever to stand in Australia."

Add in to the equation his sire War Front, arguably the hottest stallion in the world today, and you can see why The Factor was probably the most talked about new sire in the Hunter last weekend.

He stands at a fee of $22,000 with a limited number of bookings still available and for those who do decide on The Factor, let's take a look at his first Northern Hemisphere foals, so you will know what to expect!
