Zoffany Success An Eye-Catcher

Media Release - Thursday August 28
The first crop progeny of brilliant Group I winning juvenile Zoffany (IRE) look to have really captured the imagination of northern hemisphere yearling buyers during the early stages of the 2014 sales season.

ZoffanyTo date, 31 yearlings by the young sire have sold for an average of A$83,000 across the Arqana August Yearling Sale at Deauville and the DBS Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster.

As The Racing Post noted on Wednesday; 'One trend at both the Arqana August Sale and during the opening session of the DBS Premier Yearling Sale was the strong demand for first-crop offerings by G1 Phoenix Stakes winner Zoffany – following on from their popularity at last year's foal sales'.

Demand for his progeny over the two days of the Premier Sale at Doncaster was fierce with 22 sold for an average of over £47,000 (A$84,000).

Leading bloodstock agent Amanda Skiffington is an unabashed fan of the young sire and said; 'I loved the Zoffany's as foals last year and this horse is the most wonderful mover' in reference to the colt that she purchased for £120,000 (A$214,000).

The Wow Signal (Starspangledbanner) confirmed himself one of Europe's leading juveniles with a tenacious success in Sunday's G1 Prix Morny at Deauville and his half-sister by Zoffany was another much sought after yearling.

Paul Coombe, acting on behalf of Betfair founder Andrew Black, came out on top in the bidding duel for the well-related filly at £150,000 (A$267,000) and said; 'Regardless of the update, I thought she was a lovely specimen – athletic with a great body'.

Only a couple of weeks ago in France, all nine Zoffany yearlings offered were sold for an average of €58,000 (A$82,000) at the Arqana August Sale. Amongst those were a colts bought for €120,000 (A$170,000) and €100,000 (A$142,000) respectively.

The first Australian crop of Zoffany are yearlings and include the progeny of or siblings to the likes of Rebel Dane, Operetta Lass, Glitzy Guru, Bugatty and Under The Louvre.

He will stand the 2014 season at Coolmore Australia at a fee of $8,800 (incl. GST).
