Japanese Winner for Australian Breeder

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 1
Australian bloodstock investor Paul Fudge of Waratah Thoroughbreds tasted success in Japan over the weekend when his two year-old Tapit colt Tap That saluted at Sapporo.

Tap That as a yearlingTrained by Yasutoshi Ikee, who has prepared amongst others the great champion Orfevre, Tap That won a 1700 metre dirt race for first starters by two and a half lengths.

Tap That was bought by Waratah Thoroughbreds for 80 million yen at the JRA Select Sale last year and is a Japanese bred horse with a big international family.

He is the second foal and first winner for US bred Art Princess, who was Group II placed in the UK and is a half-sister by Officer to US Group I II winner Zazu, Group II winner Flashback and stakes-winner Corinthian's Jewel.

Zazu and Flashback are both by champion US sire Tapit, so this colt is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to a couple of good ones!

This family has been hot property commercially in recent years at the US broodmare sales with Katsumi Yoshida paying $2.1 million for Zazu in 2012 and Mandy Pope paying $2million for Art Princess and Zazu's dam Rhumb Line in 2013.
