148 nominated for the 2014 Melbourne Cup

Brad Waters - Tuesday September 2

Her Majesty The Queen could have a starter while Japanese trainers have two runners almost certain to make the trip to Australia to tackle the 2014 Melbourne Cup.

Internationally trained runners comprise 31 of the 148 nominations for this year's edition of Australia's greatest race, to be held on November 4.

Queen Elizabeth II last tried to win the Melbourne Cup in 1997 with Arabian Story, which finished sixth behind the super galloper Might And Power.

Sir Michael Stoute has entered the Queen's 2013 Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate while the UK trainer has also entered the consistent Group II winner Hillstar.

Racing Victoria's international scout Leigh Jordon said Japanese duo Bande and Admire Rakti were due to enter quarantine shortly.

Japanese stayers quinellaed the 2006 Melbourne Cup when Delta Blues narrowly defeated Pop Rock.

Bande won a Listed race by five lengths at his last outing on August 10 while Admire Rakti finished second at Group II level two starts back.

Connections of both runners have booked Melbourne Cup jockeys with Australian rider Zac Purton to partner Admire Rakti while 2011 Melbourne Cup-winning rider Christophe Lemaire has secured the ride on Bande.

Godolphin will make another attempt to win the Melbourne Cup with Cavalryman and Willing Foe the Saeed bin Suroor stable's candidates to travel to Victoria.
