Frankel Filly Pleases Cressfield

Media Release - Wednesday September 3
After the world's best racehorse, Frankel, retired to stud at Banstead Manor in 2013, boutique Hunter Valley based farm Cressfield set about looking to secure two new mares worthy of sending to the super horse to Southern Hemisphere time.

The Irish bred Buenos Aires (Rainbow Quest) and the N.Z race mare Jeu De Cartes (Stravinsky) were eventually purchased and later returned to Cressfield in February 2014 both carrying positive pregnancy tests to Frankel.

While two of the five Frankel foals expected in Australasia this season have been born elsewhere, Cressfield has welcomed their first on 17thAugust, a lovely neat filly out of Jeu De Cartes.

This is the first foal for the Group II winning mare and is so far the only bay filly of Frankel's in Australia, the other two fillies both being chestnut.

"The filly is a very neat, well conformed foal, and while she is sensible and inquisitive, she can also have her 'diva' moments. I am sure that she is aware that she is a little bit special," said Liesl Baumann.

Jeu De Cartes was bred and raced in N.Z, where she won on 9 occasions, her half- brother, Nom Du Jeu (Montjeu) won the Group 1 AJC Australian Derby and was Group 1 placed in four other occasions.

Cressfield now patiently awaits their second Frankel foal out of the mare Buenos Aires, due to foal on 12th September.

Buenos Aires has a pedigree well known to the Australian industry being out of Benediction making her a half- sister to Melbourne Cup winner Might And Power and includes other family members such as, Lucky Owners, Miss Power Bird and Mosheen.
