It's
probably a little known fact that Emirates Park bred and sold champion sire
Encosta de Lago, and it was a close relation to him that provided them with a
stylish debut winner at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Prepared by Team Hawkes, More Than Ready (USA) filly Eyre kicked off her career
with an all the way win in the 1100 metre maiden leading throughout for James
McDonald and fighting on to win by the best part of a length.
"She did everything right today, jumped well and found the front," said Michael
Hawkes.
"It was only her first start, so there's definitely improvement in her."
A homebred for Emirates Park, Eyre is the first foal of unraced Zyoon, a
half-sister by Al Maher to Encosta de Lago from the family of Flying Spur.
Emirates Park have always been good supporters of the Breednet Foal Gallery and
this is Eyre as a foal back in 2011.
Zyoon is being given every opportunity to succeed at stud and has a two
year-old colt by High Chaparral (IRE), a yearling colt by Lonhro and is due to
foal to the stud's exciting young sire Dream Ahead (USA).
