The
Champion 3YO of 2000/2001 when he won the Group I AJC Australian Derby, Spring Champion
Stakes and STC Canterbury Guineas, Universal Prince featured with a new
stakes-winner on Sunday when his five year-old son Red Blast won the Listed
Boulder Cup at Kalgoorlie.
Prepared by Dan Morton, Red Blast took the 2100 metre staying feature by half a
length, his overall record now six wins and three placings from 19 starts with prizemoney
topping $218,000.
Red Blast is the best of two winners from Classy Charmer, a half-sister to
Australian Horse of the Year Scenic Blast and Group I winner Gilded Venom.
Red Blast is closely related to Scenic Blast, who was also trained by Dan
Morton and is by Scenic (IRE), the sire of Universal Prince.
Red Blast is the second stakes-winner for Universal Prince, who at age 17 has
not covered a mare since 2012 according to Studbook.
