New Babe for Star Producer Parfore

Media Release - Tuesday September 16
Arguably New Zealand's most successful active broodmare, Parfore delivered a much anticipated foal at Wentwood Grange, near Cambridge, early on Monday morning.

Parfore and her prized fillyThe filly (pictured Trish Dunnell)  by Darci Brahma is a full-sister to Singapore champion, now sire, Super Easy and half-sister to Group One winner Tiger Tees, Group Three winner Terravista and Listed winner Our Lukas.

"She is a strong, good sized filly with a couple of white markings and we are very happy with her," stud manager Dean Hawkins said.

"Parfore has come through the foaling well and she will be served by Rip Van Winkle this year."

The seventeen-year-old Gold Brose mare is owned by Abu Dhabi-based Australian Mike Ryan, who will retain the filly.

"We've been desperate to get a filly out of her, so I'm really pleased," Ryan said.

"Coolmore paid $450,000 for the only other filly I've bred out of the mare (the Stravinsky filly Frustrating) at the first Patinack Dispersal Sale last year."

Ryan purchased Parfore through bloodstock agent Paul Willetts for $30,000 from the 2004 New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling and Broodmare Sale. She has a perfect record at stud, with her first eight foals all winners while her ninth foal is a two-year-old Zabeel colt which is yet to race.

"The Zabeel colt was a little bit backward, which is why he was withdrawn from the sales," Ryan said.

"He's a totally different horse now and has been broken in and will head to Australia next week. I'll be retaining a majority share and will race him from the Peter and Paul Snowden stable with the guys who race Tiger Tees and Terravista. I've known the guys for a long time."

Ryan, along with wife Christine and son Lukas (after whom Parfore's foals Our Lukas and Our Boy Lukas were named) have been based in Abu Dhabi for the past seven years.

"It's amazing with the internet these days the world has become a much smaller place and it's been great watching Parfore's progeny perform so well on the racetrack." - NZ Racing Desk
