Lone Banner Worth a Look

Media Release - Tuesday September 30
STARSPANGLEDBANNER'S only 2-year-old in the catalogue for the 2014 edition of the Inglis annual Ready to Race Sale scheduled for the Newmarket Stables, Randwick on Tuesday October 7, could be a future banner waver for the family of Hot Danish.

Lot 47A recent heroine of racing who died while still in training, this daughter of Nothin' Leica Dane and the speedy Zephyr Zip Sydney winner Hot 'n'Breezy won 16 races and earned $2,338,630. Group1 efforts included wins in the AJC All-Aged Stakes and Doomben 10,000, seconds in the AJC T.J. Smith, STC Queen of the Turf and Coolmore Classic and a third in the VRC Myer Classic.

Hot Danish was a sister to Hot'n'dreamin, the dam of the Starspangledbanner colt, lot 47, in the sale on account of Wadick Racing. All were bred by David Parker, a former Kempsey businessman now residing at Port Macquarie, and were raised by Holbrook Thoroughbreds, Scone.

Inbred 4x3 to Danehill, the colt is from the first Australian crop of Starspangledbanner, an Australian bred horse who like his sire Choisir proved a world class sprinter from performances at home and in England.

Now headquartered at the Rosemont Stud at Gnarwarre in Victoria, Starspangledbanner is a boom sire this year in Europe from a debut season at Coolmore in Ireland. He is Europe's leading first crop sire with winners up to Group1 level.

Starspangledbanner's sire Choisir, the source of more than 700 winners, including 62 successful in stakes, from use at the Coolmore studs in Australia and the Ireland, has three 2-year-olds in the Inglis catalogue.

They are colts from Infinite Grace (7 wins, $846,500) and Polite, an Elusive Quality relation of Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago, and a filly from Pussycat Doll, a Tale of the Cat winning three-quarter sister to good 2-year-old and producer Living Spirit.

Champion Australian sires Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago each have two lots in the catalogue. In addition other sires with two or more are Ad Valorem (USA), All American, Artie Schiller (USA), Bel Esprit, Beneteau, Bernardini (USA), Casino Prince, Dane Shadow, Domesday, Dylan Thomas (USA), Equiano (Fr), Exceed and Excel, Excellent Art (GB), Fastnet Rock, Hinchinbrook, Husson (Arg), I Am Invincible, Lope de Vega (Ire), Magic Albert, More Than Ready (USA), Nicconi, Not a Single Doubt, Onemorenomore, Pendragon, Reward For Effort, Sebring, Snitzel, Star Witness, Stryker, Teofilo (Ire), Von Costa de Hero, Written Tycoon and Zizou. – Brian Russell Media
