The
opening session of the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale was held overnight in Ireland with MV Magnier
securing the highest priced offering , a colt by Galileo from Scribonia for
1,500,000 euros.
The star colt was bred by Jim Bolger and is a full brother to Group III winner and
Group I placed Cuis Ghaire.
"He's a very good colt from a good and fast family," said Magnier.
"Jim [Bolger] is an outstanding trainer and breeder and in fairness to him
he supported Galileo from the beginning and helped make the horse what he is
today."
The second highest priced youngster was bought by Michael Wallace Bloodstock on
behalf of China Horse Club, who will have a Group I runner in Australia this Saturday with Fastnet Rock filly First Seal to run in the ATC Flight Stakes at Radnwick.
They outlaid 850,000 euros for a Sea the Stars colt from stakes-winner
Evensong.
The aggregate of almost €19m was an improvement of 22 per cent on last year,
while the average of €106,050 grew by the same amount. The €72,000 median was
up by 38 per cent, although the clearance rate did fall by slightly to 86 per
cent.
