Another very significant week of trading at Newmarket's
iconic Tattersalls sales complex witnessed Dream Ahead (USA) again being
responsible for a set of highly impressive returns for breeders of the
stallion's first northern hemisphere crop. With a Book 2 average of 75,667gns
for 18 of 20 offerings sold, the Emirates Park-owned stallion continued to be
one of the major success stories of the 2014 October Yearling Sale series.
After the three-day Book 2 session, Dream Ahead's average proved to be more
than 15 percent above that of the sale overall and included the receipts of no
fewer than four youngsters to fetch successful six-figure bids. Three colts
changed hands for as much as 300,000gns, 240,000gns and 100,000gns, while the
top-priced filly went for 210,000gns.
Day One of the Book 2 catalogue witnessed a chestnut colt produced by the
Stravinsky mare Whisper Dance realize Dream Ahead's top-price for the session
when knocked-down to Hong Kong owner Pan Sutong for 300,000gns. The youngster
had been a €58,000 pinhook at the Goffs November Foal Sale late last year and
is now expected to race in the same colours as the 2013 Hong Kong Derby winner
Akeed Mofeed.
The following day saw a striking chestnut son of Dream Ahead bought for his former owner Khalifa Dasmal when bloodstock agent Mark Crossman secured Lot 865 for 240,000gns. The first foal of a winning half-sister to Group 2 winner Zacinto, Crossman told Racing Post: "He will be trained by [Dreams Ahead's former trainer] David Simcock. He looked the pick of the Dream Aheads; we looked at them all. I think he'll be a 2-year-old. He's as much like his sire as any I've seen — apart from the colour!"
The closing day of proceedings saw the Shadwell Estate Company of Sheikh Hamdan purchase the highest-priced Dream Ahead filly of the Book 2 catalogue. The half-sister to this season's Group 3 Sirenia Stakes winner Burnt Sugar went for 210,000gns and was amongst three members of the breed to be found in 25 Lots that made 200k-plus.
Books 1 and 2 of Tattersalls October Yearling Sale saw no fewer than nine
members of Dream Ahead's first northern hemisphere crop fetch six-figure (gns)
amounts and realize as much as 400,000gns.
