Street Cry's Nozomi Books a Spot in Victoria Derby

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 22

Street Cry (IRE) colt Nozomi has taken some time in figuring what the racing game is all about but he booked a ticket for Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) on November 1 following his win Wednesday's Listed Geelong Classic (2200m).

Trained by Anthony Freedman for Godolphin, Nozomi broke his maiden at his previous start at Kyneton. Punters were no0t impressed by that form and he went off $13 chance under Dwayne Dunn.

The Chris Waller-trained Preferment was sent off the favourite under Damien Oliver and was doing his best work at finish just a nose behind the winner after being one of the first to come off the bit.

Bred by Darley, Nozomi is a half-brother to Group II Moonee Valley Oaks winner Kazanluk. He is the eighth foal of the smart raccemare Rose Of Danehill (Danehill). (photo Darryl Sherer).

Herself a $400,000 Easter Yearling in 1996, Rose Of Danehill was sent to the 2005 Easter Broodmare Sale as part of the Vinery Dispersal and was knocked down to Woodlands for $500,000.  She was honoured as the Champion 2YO filly of year and retired with 4 wins and $843,412 including the Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes and was second in the Group 1 VATC Blue Diamond and Group 1 1000 Guineas.

Rose Of Danehill is a half-sister to Group 1 William Reid Stakes winner Wrap Around (Bletchingly) the granddam of dual Group 1 winner Fashions Afield.

Rose Of Danehill has 2yo colt by New Approach (IRE) named Molineux. She missed to that stallion in 2012 and was covered by Domesday last year.

Nozomi becomes the 84th stakes-winner for Darley Stud's deceased stallion Street Cry (IRE).
