Coolmore Set to Retire Another Galileo Group One Winner

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 27
Coolmore have already announced stud plans for Galileo's Epsom Derby winners Australia and Ruler of the World, with defending Breeders' Cup Turf winner Magician set to join the roster at Coolmore's US base of Ashford Stud after the Breeders' Cup meeting this Saturday.

MagicianBred on a similar cross to last Saturday's explosive Cox Plate winner Adelaide (IRE), Magician is also by Galileo from a speedy stakes-winning Danzig line mare in Listed winner Absolutelyfabulous.

Magician broke his maiden by six lengths at the Curragh as a juvenile and kicked off his three year-old season with a four-length romp in Chester's Group III Dee Stakes before dropping back to a mile for the Group I Irish 2,000 Guineas which he won by a comfortable 3½ lengths.

Then in his first attempt at the trip in the Group I Breeders' Cup Turf off a 4½ -month layoff he produced a power-packed finish to deny outstanding mare The Fugue.

This season Magician recorded another success in the Group III Mooresbridge Stakes along with three solid efforts at the highest level when filling the runner-up spot in the Group I Tattersalls Gold Cup, Royal Ascot's Group I Prince of Wales's Stakes and most recently the Group I Arlington Million.

"Magician is a very, very good-looking horse who possesses a blistering turn of foot," said Ashford's Director of Sales Charlie O'Connor.

"Along with Frankel he's one of only three colts by Galileo to win a Classic over a mile so he's a rare commodity."

Given the influx of new Galileo sire talent to the Coolmore roster for 2015 it's no wonder that Cape Blanco (IRE), currently covering in New Zealand for Cambridge Stud is headed to Japan for his 2015 NH breeding season.
