First Group One Winner for I am Invincible

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 1
Quality colt Brazen Beau very nearly gave Yarraman Park's young sire sensation I Am Invincible his first Group I winner back in the winter when he was beaten a long head in the Group I BRC JJ Atkins Stakes and he made amends at Flemington on Saturday when beating a crackerjack field to win the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Brazen Beau - Lisa GrimmTurned out in sensational order by Chris Waller, Brazen Beau looked the part in the mounting yard against a stellar lineup that included Blue Diamond winning filly Earthquake as well as star colts such as Rich Enuff, Rubick and Scissor Kick.

Ridden a treat by Joao Moreira, Brazen Beau was allowed to settle back off the pace from a wide gate and when others wilted he was quick to pounce, zooming down the outside to win the 1200 metre dash by more than a length from his stablemate Delectation.

"He's a lovely horse and he's done everything right," said Joao Moreira.

Fifth at his first run back from a spell in the Group II VRC Danehill Stakes and then an easy winner of the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes, Brazen Beau was cherry ripe for this assignment and raced accordingly.

"He wasn't fit for his first run up the straight, which is something that you live and learn from and then he had a confidence building win in the Roman Consul beating Hallowed Crown," said Chris Waller, who won the race last year with Zoustar.

"Since then he's had the perfect preparation."

Brazen BeauA $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the draft of Murrulla Stud for Grant Morgan's Ontrack Thoroughbreds, Brazen Beau runs for a big group of owners and has won four of eight starts earning $712,825 in prizemoney.

That money is a drop in the ocean compared to what he might now be worth as a stallion prospect given he is the best colt to date by I Am Invincible, who was Champion First Season Sire for 2013/2014.

Bred by Bernie Howlett, who also trained his mother, Brazen Beau is the second winner for former handy juvenile Sansadee, who was third in a Group III Canberra Black Opal Stakes.

He has a power packed pedigree carrying a 4 x 3 double cross of not one but two super sires in Danzig and Bletchingly, while his tail female line traces back to Windy Answer, who is also the ancestress of champion sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur.

Sansadee has been a regular visitor to I Am Invincible and her two year-old filly by him sold for $65,000 in Session Five at Magic Millions earlier this year.

She missed to him in 2012, so had no foal last year, but was one of 175 mares covered by I Am Invincible last spring.

I Am Invincible

I Am Invincible is fully booked at Yarraman Park at the increased fee of $27,500, while his own sire Invincible Spirit has also had a fee rise and will stand at 100,000 euros at the Irish National Stud in 2015 following a year in which he has produced two outstanding three year-old milers in the now retired multiple Group I winners Kingman and Charming Spirit.
