Synonymous as a sale with value for trainers and syndicators alike, the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale added its latest Group 1 winner to the mantelpiece, when three-year-old colt Brazen Beau claimed the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200m in emphatic fashion at Flemington on Saturday.
After leading home an Inglis trifecta in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes last start, the Chris Waller-trainedBrazen Beau (I Am Invincible x Sansadee)headed to Flemington where he was one of two runners for the leading trainer in the Group 1 race.
Jumping away well for jockey Joao Moreira, the colt settled towards the tail of the pack as the field split in two down the Flemington straight.
The closest to the outside rail, Brazen Beau started a barnstorming run at the 400m to gather in the leaders and surged ahead to hold off the late charge of stablemate Delectation, a graduate of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, to win by a length-and-a-quarter.
Summing up the result perfectly, trainer Chris Waller stated, "He's a very, very good colt and he beat an outstanding field and he beat them fair and square."
Joining the likes of fellow Inglis graduates Headway (Easter), Weekend Hussler (Premier) and Alinghi (Premier) as recent winners of the race, Brazen Beau's victory was the first at the elite level for his Inglis Classic sold, now Yarraman Park Stud-based Champion first season sire I Am Invincible.
With the Inglis Classic Sale renowned for producing gallopers of the highest ilk, recent graduates include the Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes winner Peggy Jean, a purchase by Triple Crown Syndications, while Chris Waller himself also has an exceptional record from the sale with the likes of Triple Honour, Pressday and The Verminator all successful at Group 1 level.
Purchased for $70,000 by syndicator Ontrack Thoroughbreds from the draft of Murrulla Stud at the 2013 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book, the victory by Brazen Beau took his earnings past $700,000 and with a stud career also possibly now on the agenda, the value of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale is one again highlighted.
The final race on the day at Flemington saw another Inglis graduate highlight himself as possible sire of the future, whenDeep Field (Northern Meteor x Listen Here)remained unbeaten when winning the Group 2 Tab.com.au Stakes down the famed straight-six.
A quick look at previous winners of the race brings further excitement with Fastnet Rock (Easter) and Choisir (Classic) both capturing the 1200m sprint during their racetrack careers before successful international stud careers.
Purchased from the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $440,000 from the draft of Edinglassie Stud, the Alan Bell and Kia-Ora Stud owned four-year-old recorded a soft one length victory as the short-priced favourite.
Both co-trainer Wayne Hawkes and jockey Dwayne Dunn described Deep Field post-race as a "big baby" with plenty to learn still.
"He's just a big baby, he's never had a spell, we're very happy, you have to be with that," stated Hawkes.
With no decision made about his next start, one thing connections will aim to do is keep him away from stablemate and fellow Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate Chautauqua who will contest the Group 1 Darley Sprint on the final day of the carnival.
