Interesting
winner at Scottsville in South Africa on Sunday with Strawberry Hill homebred two
year-old filly Big Sugar opening her account on debut in the colours of her
breeder John Singleton.
Prepared by Charles Laird, the daughter of More Than Ready (USA) won the 800
metre scamper by three-quarters of a length as favourite.
Big Sugar is the second foal and second winner for former brilliant Group III
winning juvenile Sugar Babe, a daughter of champion sire Exceed and Excel and Singleton's
Group II winner On Type.
The first foal of Sugar Babe, another filly by More Than Ready, was the top
priced filly at the 2012 Magic Millions where she was bought by Gai
Waterhouse/James Harron Bloodstock for $600,000.
Racing as Sugar Rush, she has won four of 13 starts and over $178,000 in
prizemoney.
Sugar Babe has foaled again this spring producing another filly by More Than
Ready.
