Winner of this year's Group I ATC Coolmore Classic, Steps in Time retired from racing in June with career earnings of nearly $1.1 million and seven stakes victories to her credit. She is now in-foal to Widden Stud's Sebring, who was also chosen as the partner for Black Caviar this year.
Bred at Kitchwin Hills for Geoff and Mary Grimish, Red Tracer is a dual Group I winning daughter of Dane Shadow, who also retired from racing in June with career earnings of over $2.3 million and 12 stakes victories. Pictured at the farm with her former strapper Tiff, Red Tracer is also now in-foal to Sebring.
The 2014 Group II BRC Brisbane Cup was one of three stakes victories for Savabeel mare Floria, who also retired in June, with career earnings of over $500,000. She has been covered by Redoute's Choice this spring.
Another star broodmare, although this one famous for her offspring, is 15 year-old Kisma, the dam of six winners from eight foals highlighted by Group I winners Red Tracer and Shellscrape. She was dry in 2013, but is now back in-foal to Redoute's Choice.
2014 has been one amazing breeding season at Kitchwin Hills. Given the quality of race mares now residing in these hills, one can imagine the amount of effort, passion and care that goes into these girls and their foals.
As always when dealing with nature, we were dealt a few blows, but overall it has been a very successful breeding season.
The final foal for the year was dual Group I winner Eskimo Queen, who foaled a very nice Commands colt on Wednesday night at Kitchwin Hills (pictured at 12 hours old).
Not only was Eskimo Queen the last mare of the season to foal at the farm in 2014, but her colt foal is likely to be one of the last foals ever born sired by Commands, who unfortunately died in July of this year, aged 17.
The Darley stalwarts will be sorely missed having left 65 stakes-winners, nine of them Group I winners.
The future of this little colt will be well worth following in coming years as he seeks to follow in the footsteps of all the Kitchwin Hills stars that have gone before.
