Runner-up at Rosehill as his career debut when his trainer
considered him not fully fit, Zoutenant booked his ticket to the Gold Coast for
Magic Millions 2YO Classic with a narrow win in Thursday's $200,000 Wyong Magic
Millions 2YO Classic (1100m).
"I ran him when he wasn't fit the other day (at
Rosehill) because I thought he needed the prizemoney to get into this race," winning
trainer Kevin Moses said.
"Now he can go to the other Magic Millions and he'll improve on that."
After racing greenly down the straight, the son of Zizou defeated
Surf Seeker (Wanted) by a nose with a long head back to Single Gaze (Not A
Single Doubt) in third.
"When I gave him a reminder behind the saddle he decided
to shift ground instead of concentrating and running true," winning jockey Glyn
Schofield told TVN.
"He was going sideways instead of going forwards and of
course I had to keep him on a straight path and fortunately he's done enough to
win.
"He's probably won a little bit easier than the margin
suggests."
A brother to Melbourne winner Tiarazou, Zoutenant (pictured as a yearling) was a $105,000
