Smart Aussie Winners in South Africa

A homebred for Shadwell, foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, exciting prospect Ertijaal made it two wins in as many starts when he opened up to win by daylight at Turffontein in South Africa on Sunday.

A three year-old Hard Spun (USA) colt prepared by Mike de Kock, Ertijaal bolted away to win the 2000 metre event against older horses by more than eight lengths.

A half-brother to Dubai Group III winner Mushreq, who was also Group I placed in South Africa and Macau stakes-winner Jazza Bell, Ertijaal is the sixth winner for stakes-placed Jeune (GB) mare Alharir, a half-sister to the dam of Group I winner Rewaaya from the family of Group I winners Snippets and Forensics.

Alharir has foaled this spring producing a filly by Shadwell's Blue Diamond winner Nadeem, who is now at stud in New Zealand.

Modern Muse as a yearlingAlso winning on the same card was three year-old Encosta de Lago filly Modern Muse, who scored over 1800 metres for Mike de Kock, her second win from five starts.

A $110,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Form Bloodstock from the draft of Kia Ora Stud, Modern Muse is the third winner from Redoute's Choice mare Modellista, a full sister to Champion 2YO and dual Group I winner Fashions Afield.

Kia-Ora will offer the current yearling from Modellista, a colt by Sebring asLot 458 at Magic Millions.
