A half-brother to stakes-placed Miss Idyllic and Chosen Idol, the handsome chestnut was bought by David Raphael and is the fifth foal of Academy Idol, a half-sister by Made of Gold (USA) to Group III winner Cosmic Strike.
"I can't remember a better group of first season sires and Sepoy was an extraordinary two year-old," David Raphael told Sky Racing.
"This colt is one of the best Sepoy's in the sale and I bought the horse I wanted.
"It's the same partnership that were in Rubick and Gerald Ryan will train. We even paid the same money for this colt as we did for Rubick."
Rubick was bought for $460,000 in 2013 and has proven a great investment, the blue-blooded son of Encosta de Lago a Group winner at two and three, that will eventually stand at Coolmore at the conclusion of his racing career.
The sale is a great result for Nick Hodges, who bred the colt in partnership with Darley and still owns 12 year-old Academy Idol, who is shaping as a very smart producer.
She has a filly foal by Street Cry (IRE) and was covered last year by Darley's newcomer Epaulette.
Sepoy has 34 entries catalogued for this sale and was named in a recent Breednet audience poll as the favourite to be leading first season sire by average at the Gold Coast.
