Being a son of the South African Group II winner and Group 1 placed Merlene De Lago, herself a daughter of the Golden Slipper winner Merlene, the colt had the pedigree be among the stars of the sale.
As it eventuated he was among a handful of the cheapest yearlings by his sire sold in 2014 when hammered down to trainer Robbie Griffiths for $40,000, which was less than a third of his sire's service fee.
Griffiths had purchased the colt's brother a year earlier for $220,000 but he lost that colt before he even had a chance to name him.
But he looks to have hit the jackpot second time around with the $40,000 yearling Burnstone who made a winning career debut when streaking away with Monday's $120,000 Listed Sportingbet Blue Diamond Preview for colts and gelding over 1000m at Sportingbet Park Sandown.
Ridden by Damian Lane, Burnstone (pictured as a yearling) ran down the fleet footed Exceed And Excel colt Top Me Up to win by a widening three and a half lengths with Real Saga colt Kirabo back in third.
Griffiths explained why the royally bred colt cost so little.
"We were quite lucky because we bought the full brother a year before and lost him in a freak accident and we followed up with this guy, Griffiths said.
"We paraded him up and down and really liked him and my wife and I were keen to buy him.
He was a little bit smaller than his brother who we had bought for $220,000 and we thought he's a little bit smaller and we might get him for about $100,000 somewhere around service fee.
"Then one of the Arrowfield staff said we've got to announce he was a windsucker, which didn't worry me so I thought we might get him a little cheaper.
"Because nobody was bidding the hammer went down for $40,000.
It was lucky for us and gave a great group of owners who have been loyal for a long time a chance to race a very well bred colt
"He's got a stallions pedigree being out of a Group 1 performed daughter of Merlene who won the Golden Slipper so he's got an unbelievable pedigree."
Just a few week ago the impressive Beneteau gelding Voilier won on debut in Sydney.
Voilier was handed back his breeder when he was seen to windsuck.
A half-sister to the dam of VRC Oaks heroine Dear Demi (Dehere), Merlene De Lago (Encosta de Lago) has a Starcraft colt heading to the Inglis Premier Yearling sale.
She has a filly foal by Animal Kingdom (USA) and was bred back to All American last spring.
Burnstone becomes the 121st stakes winner for Redoute's Choice.
