Newmarket On The Radar for Reparations

Mark Smith - Monday January 26
Godolphin's six-year-old Exceed And Excel gelding Reparations earned his third stakes win after a stirring battle in Monday's Listed Master Yearlings John Dillon Stakes (1400m) at Sportingbet Park, Sandown.

Aided by a superb ride by Dwayne Dunn, the Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained gelding edged out the fighting Decircles who worried the odds-on favourite Tried And Tired out of second place.

It takes the overall record of the Darley homebred to 10 wins, 1 second and 3 thirds from 29 starts for earnings of $493,176.

"I think he's a genuine Group three horse, Anthony Freedman said.

We had a go at a Group 1 in the Stradbroke , but I think he's clearly a better horse now."

"We may throw him in the (Group 1) Newmarket (Handicap), he'll get down in the weights. I think for him to win a Group 1 it would have to be a handicap.

"And, he's gone well up the straight before so it's an option."

A half-brother to Group III winner and Group 1 placed Retrieve and Listed winner Listed winner Abduction, Reparations is out of the imported Red Ransom mare Hold To Ransom (USA) a 5-length winner of the Listed Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

A $95,000 Keeneland September Yearling sale purchase, Hold To Ransom is out the stakes-placed Wassifa (Sure Blade), a granddaughter of the class racemare Topsy (Habitat) a half-sister to Epsom Derby hero Teenoso.

Hold To Ransom (USA) has a yearling filly by Sepoy and a colt foal by Animal Kingdom (USA). She was bred back to Sepoy last spring.
