First Australian Winner for O'Lonhro

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 28

O'Lonhro is off and rolling, the well credentialled young stallion represented by his first Australian winner at Wagga Wagga on Australia Day.

And a most impressive winner it was too, the Larneuk Stud home-bred Little Capri showing great natural pace to lead the 1000m maiden - doing everything right at debut.

O'LonhroLooking a top chance on the back of a three length trial victory two weeks previously, Little Capri is a horse who has always been well regarded.

"He has always shown plenty of speed," said Larneuk's Neville Murdoch.

"He has been a professional right from the start and we are looking forward to seeing him go right on from here."

So confident of Little Capri's future that he recently bought his dam Angel Of Capri back having sold her a few years ago, Murdoch searched the country for the daughter of Archway.

"Little Capri is her first and only foal and she will be back to O'Lonhro this spring."

Delighted in the way in which O'Lonhro has let down as a nine-year-old, Murdoch is confident that the record-breaking son of Lonhro has the best to come with his progeny shaping well at three.

"He has an extra smart one in the shape of Black Magic (impressive debut Kranji winner) in Singapore and we have seen some very nice performances by O'Lonhro's progeny at recent trials."

In addition to his two winners, O'Lonhro has also sired five promising placegetters from his first handful of runners and it is testament to the quality of his foals that breeders keep coming back for more.

Many of the mares served by O'Lonhro last spring already have foals by him, including the dam of Black Magic and daughters of Danehill, Exceed And Excel, Danehill Dancer, Keltrice, Desert Prince, Happy Giggle, Magic Albert, Zeditave, El Moxie, Toy Pindarri and Canny Lad.

Murdoch notes that many of those returning mares are members of the Danehill line - and that is no surprise with Lonhro excelling with that legendary stallion's descendants; the cross already producing 15 stakes winners.
