As
a half-sister to two Group I winners and the last filly foal from an extra
special producer who died in 2012, the debut win for this filly at Hawkesbury
on Thursday is an easy selection as our One to Watch.
Prepared by Ron Quinton for her breeder David Bentata, three year-old Nadeem
filly Lucky Can be kicked off her racing career with a length and a half win in
the 1100 metre maiden.
Making light work of the heavy conditions, Lucky Can Be powered home down the
middle of the track for Sam Clipperton to score a powerful victory and will doubtless
measure up to better company.
Lucky Can Be is the fifth winner from five foals to race from Yes She Can
Cancan, whose offspring are headed by Group I ATC Coolmore Classic winner
Ofcourseican and South African Group I winner Gimmethegreenlight.
Her other two winners apart from Lucky Can Be are stakes-placed Longma and La Goulue,
so there will be plenty of expectation that Lucky Can Be can make like the rest
of her siblings and gain some Black Type in the future.
She is the last foal from Yes She Can Cancan, who died in 2012 and was a full
sister to the dam of Group winners Gregers and Girl Guide, so it's a family
that has been very busy in recent years.
David Bentata has a bit to look forward to with Lucky Can Be and also has a new
generation of the family to follow having retained Ofcourseican, who has made a
smooth start to her stud career.
The daughter of Mossman produced a colt by Champion European Sprinter Dream Ahead
(USA) in her first season at stud and the youngster will be offered at the 2015
Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Yarraman Park as agent as Lot 85.
Ofcourseican had a colt by Sebring last year and is now in foal to another
Golden Slipper winner in Pierro.
