New Stakes-Winner for Fastnet Rock

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 31
Champion sire Fastnet Rock added a new stakes-winner to his tally in Brisbane on Saturday when talented mare Saturn Rock scored a well-deserved victory in the Listed BRC Nudgee Quality.

Saturn Rock as a yearlingPlaced in Group III and Listed events on six occasions previously, Saturn Rock was overdue to post a Black Type win and took the 1200 meter sprint by the best part of a length for Beaudesert trainer Tony Crane.

Somewhat of a bridesmaid, Saturn Rock has won three races and placed 12 times from 25 starts earning over $226,000 in prizemoney and as a stakes-winner will be a valuable broodmare prospect when she heads to stud.

A $150,000 purchase from the Trelawney Stud draft at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Saturn Rock was bought by Boomer Bloodstock for $270,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale, so has proven an astute investment for her current owners.

She is the best of two winners from stakes-winner Satin Robes, a grand-daughter of Group I winner Lady Madonna.

Satin Robes was covered again by Fastnet Rock last spring.

Saturn Rock is the 74th stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock worldwide and is his 13th in Australia this season making him the leading sire by stakes-winners as well as by earnings.

Fastnet Rock was only a whisker off posting a stakes treble with his top class mare Driefontein finishing second in the Group II ATC Expressway Stakes at Rosehill and his promising two year-old filly Lake Geneva, beaten narrowly in the Group III ATC Widden Stakes on debut.

A $1million Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft, the Hawkes Racing prepared Lake Geneva will be better for the run and hard to beat when she steps out for her next assignment.
