Former
champion filly Serenade Rose died after having just three foals for Darley and
while the first two are both winners, the third might be well above average.
Lee and Anthony Freedman saddled up promising Lonhro colt Minnesinger to score an
impressive win for Godolphin at Sandown on Wednesday.
Stepping up to 1600 metres for the first time at his fourth start following a
last start maiden win at Kilmore, Minnesinger powered to the line from back in the
field to win by nearly two lengths.
Minnesinger is entered for the Group I VRC Australian Guineas, however Lee Freedman
was non-committal about a start although believes the colt will measure up to
Group company in due course.
Minnesinger is the third and final foal of Serenade Rose, who was prepared by
Freedman to win eight races highlighted by the Group I VRC Oaks , AJC
Australian Oaks and STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes.
Her second foal is handy Sydney metro winner Entertains, while her first, a mare
by Redoute's Choice called Outdoors is now at stud for Darley and has a Street
Cry (IRE) colt and was covered last spring by Medaglia D'Oro (USA).
At the recent NZB Premier Yearling Sale a three-quarter sister-in-blood to
Serenade Rose proved popular, the filly by Stravinsky (USA) from Pride of
Tralee secured by James Bester Bloodstock for $180,000.
If Minnesinger goes on to fulfil his potential, she's a filly that will have
been very well bought.
