Another Coup pressed her claims for a trip north
when she produced a powerhouse performance to come up trumps in the Listed
Dunedin Guineas.
The filly came from the tail of the field at Wingatui to claim major honours in
the ABC Business Sales-sponsored event and provide connections with further
encouragement for a crack at next month's Gr.1 Wellfield New Zealand Oaks.
Another Coup was at a three figure quote for the classic, but has now been cut
from $101 to $41 for the March 14 feature at Trentham.
Raced and bred by prominent southern thoroughbred identity Ray Coupland and his
wife Jill, she is trained at Riccarton by Michael Pitman and his son Matthew and
her victory continued rider Lisa Allpress' successful association with the
stable.
"Trentham has been the aim for her all the way through," Matthew Pittman said.
"We'll get her home and work out where to go next, but she's always been the
right type to get over a bit more ground."
Another Coup had only one runner behind her in the early running and was still
off the radar turning for home before Allpress set her alight and they stormed
home in the straight to collar Querer by a neck.
"She was impressive and it was a good ride as well," Pitman said.
Another Coup is a daughter of The Oaks Stud's Darci Brahma and she capped a
good day for the Cambridge farm's general manager Rick Williams.
He shares in the ownership of the Tauherenikau maiden winner Eyesonyou and the minor
juvenile placegetter Honor That.
The rugged qualities of the Barrie and Nicki Blatch-owned and trained Sureasyouwereborn
were to the fore in the Listed Fire & Mechanical Dunedin Gold Cup.
Under Robert Hannam, she dragged the field up to the runaway pacemaker Puddle
Alley and rallied doggedly in the run home to deny My Chino and the
late-finishing Eva Keeneva. – NZ Racing Desk.
