The Lone Beneteau

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 22
For Victorian breeders the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale is the flagship bloodstock event of the year and the team at progressive nursery Three Bridges Thoroughbreds are ready for action following a busy round of on farm inspections in recent weeks and plenty of admiration for a Beneteau colt that is the lone entry for his sire at this sale.

Owned and run by the Liston family, Three Bridges will present a diverse draft of 20 youngsters that offer something for everyone with some obvious jump and run candidates mixed in with the classic types that may be spring carnival stars of the future.

Toby Liston has taken time out to go through some of his favourites.

Lot 168 Colt Beneteau x Free Friday – From the last small crop of foals by the leading Australian first season sire Beneteau, whose star son Voilier finished second in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper on Saturday and whose progeny are in hot demand!

'He has so many positives going for him, he is the only Beneteau in this sale and will be the last Beneteau yearling colt ever to be auctioned, he has the best loose walk, he has the best looking head and brain to match. His mother is a full sister to the dam of Weekend Hussler, so the female blood is also strong.'

Lot 76 Filly Smart Missile x Checklist – Second foal of winning daughter of Group I placed stakes-winner Itemise (USA) and by a red hot young sire.

'Out of a Reset mare comes a lovely walking and very strong Smart Missile filly. She won't be overly expensive, but is a nice filly going places, there are also not many Super Vobis Smart Missiles, so she'll be popular with Victorian owners and trainers.'

Lot 244 Colt High Chaparral (IRE) x Lacada Siren – By an outstanding sire from a good metropolitan winning daughter of another champion sire in Giant's Causeway.

'The best thing about buying a High Chaparral is that he gives you the opportunity to buy a an out and out champion, So You Think, Dundeel, Shoot Out and now Contributer is the latest champion on the scene. They have plenty of scope and deep girths which gives the trainers plenty to work with. His mother finished fourth in the Qld Oaks, so he is well placed in the Blue Riband section.'

Lot 486 Colt Stryker x Royale Harmony – Second foal of a winning sister to stakes-winner Scorpio Queen, by promising young sire with two winners and two stakes performers from his first runners.

'This colt is another typical Stryker colt, he is strong and has the best bone and is extremely correct. He is the perfect Super Vobis horse and will suit all buyers. His Dam Royale Harmony finished 4th in the VRC Oaks and is from the family of G1 Newmarket Handicap winner Toledo. So you can certainly see where the speed comes from.'

Lot 499 Colt Northern Meteor x Scenarama – From the last crop of yearlings by ill-fated sire sensation Northern Meteor and is one of only three colts in this sale by him.

'This colt is strong behind, has a great nature and is one very attractive colt. Northern Meteor's sons Deep Field and Shooting To Win are the two most sought after stud prospects in the country, so this good looking colt will certainly have his admirers.'

Lot 543 colt Starcraft x Stormy Choice - Third foal of a three-quarter sister by champion sire Redoute's Choice to Group I winner Danestorm and has a very important pedigree update as his full brother Blizzard is now a smart winner in Hong Kong.

'This colt's full brother was purchased by Ricky Yui and races as Blizzard in Hong Kong. Blizzard looks to be a stakes quality horse which gives us a lot of confidence with this attractive colt. Starcraft has made a recent resurgence and he will be a good value colt to come out of our draft.'

Lot 559 Filly Fastnet Rock x Tanya Jean – First foal of Sydney metro winner. By the champion sire Fastnet Rock and carries Nureyev blood on her dam side which also appears in seven Group I winners sired by Fastnet Rock.

'This filly has so much quality, she has Fastnet Rock's amazing shoulder and movement and has a lovely head to compliment her attractive features. Most good Fastnet Rock fillies are the feminine fillies, so this holds her in good stead. I wish I owned a stable of them because they are so easy to prepare.'
