It's Somewhat Makes Impressive Australian Debut

Mark Smith - Saturday February 28
Godolphin imports enjoyed a hugely successful day at Warwick Farm, with It's Somewhat showing his class with a first up win in adopted homeland in the Group III Liverpool City Cup (1300m) while Contributer continued on his winning way in the Group 1 Liverpool Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).

Settled midfield by James McDonald, It's Somewhat finished powerfully to defeat Villiers Stakes winner Rudy, by 1-1/4 lengths Gypsy Diamond flying home to be a neck back in third. (photos Lisa Grimm)

"They really ran didn't they?" trainer John O'Shea said.

"He was still on the bridle at the 700 which was a good sign."

"John (Ferguson) sent him out here to be a possible participant in the Queen Elizabeth because he has run third in an Eclipse (Stakes) so that normally would be good enough form to be competitive in a Queen Elizabeth," he said.

"His run will qualify him for the Doncaster now so we'll see what happens."

The son of Dynaformer had some solid form in England when trained by Mark Johnston.

A Listed winner over seven furlongs at Newbury back in August 2013 he then finished second, beaten a neck, in the mile Group II Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket in September. In July last year he was third behind Mukhadram and Trading Leather in the Group One Coral-Eclipse over a mile and a quarter at Sandown Park.

By Americain's sire Dynaformer, It's Somewhat is out of the Royal Academy mare Sometime herself a daughter of the grand broodmare Alidiva (Chief Singer) who earned the honour of being Ireland and Italy's Broodmare of the Year in 1997.

Alivia's first three foals were Group 1 winners, Taipan (by Last Tycoon), Ali-Royal (by Royal Academy), and Sleepytime (by Royal Academy).

Somewhat is a sister to Group 1 Sussex Stakes winner Ali-Royal, who stood for a short time at stud in Australia before his untimely death, and to Group 1 One Thousand Guineas heroine Sleepytime.
