With 12 yearlings averaging $187,183, Fastnet Rock had some lovely youngsters on offer in Melbourne and at the top of the list was a gorgeous filly from US Group III winner Heart Ashley (USA) that fetched $330,000 for Kia Ora Stud to the bid of McEvoy Mitchell Racing.
Her year older full sister made $400,000 at Inglis Easter last year when bought by Spendthrift Farm and has been named Ameristralia, but is yet to trial for Team Hawkes and Heart Ashley has a colt foal to follow, also by Fastnet Rock.
Other good sales for Fastnet Rock included a three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Wales from Group III winner Valkyrie Diva that made $280,000 for Milburn Creek as agent for Makybe when bought by Laure Oak Bloodstock and a colt from Lady of Spain that made $275,000 for Erinvale Thoroughbreds when secured by Tan Sri Vincent Tan / Dato Robin Tan.
Street Cry (IRE), Redoute's Choice and ill-fated Northern Meteor were next on the list followed by Foxwedge with 11 averaging $161,364 and Sepoy with nine averaging $144,000.
When you consider Foxwedge, a Group I winner, stood his debut season at $33,000 and Golden Slipper winner and Champion Two and Three Year Old colt Sepoy stood and still stands at a fee of $66,000, it make his achievement to lead the first season averages all the more notable.
Foxwedge returned 4.9 times service fee and achieved strong profits for his supporters as illustrated in the Breednet Sire Profitability table for this sale. He was the top performer by profit barring ill-fated Northern Meteor.Click here to see the full sale page with sire profitability at the bottom of the page.
His top seller and indeed the highest priced colt at this sale was a glorious bay from Group I placed Glowlamp that was consigned by Newgate Farm for his breeders Dr Edmund and Belinda Bateman and bought by astute Newcastle trainer Paul Perry for $420,000.
Swettenham Stud's Redoute's Choice Group I winner Master of Design did best of the Victorian based first season sires with 14 yearlings averaging $106,786, which was an impressive 8.9 times his 2012 service fee of $12,500.
Top seller for Master of Design was unsurprisingly the half-brother to dual Group I winner Trust in a Gust from Subtle Breeze (USA) that made $300,000 for Swettenham when snapped up by Lee Freedman and Cameron Cooke Bloodstock.
