Joe
O'Neill's Prime Thoroughbreds have been enjoying a prolonged winning run and
their success continued at Morphettville on Monday when the $112,000 MM
Adelaide 2YO Classic was won by Atalanta Miss, a $55,000 MM Adelaide purchase
from the draft of Mill Park.
Prepared by Patrick Payne, Atalanta Miss won on debut at Morphettville back in
October before finishing out of a place in the Magic Millions 2YO Clockwise
Classic at Ballarat.
Given a let up after that, she was then dispatched to Tasmania where she was
most unlucky in two runs behind smart juvenile Gold Busker, but sent back to Adelaide
she found her best form.
A striking bay daughter of Not a Single Doubt, Atalanta Miss settled back in the field for Michelle Payne as was planned and
charged to the line to score a narrow win in a blanket finish.
"I didn't think she'd get there, but she's a tough little thing," confessed
Patrick Payne.
"We decided to ride her more quietly and Michelle executed the plan perfectly."
Atalanta Miss has now won two of five starts earning over $100,000 in
prizemoney for her big team of lucky owners.
"I have to thank Joe O'Neill from Prime Thoroughbreds for sending her to me," Payne
said.
"He said she wasn't big, but was a lovely walker.
"We'll be keen to get to the sales and buy again tonight and tomorrow."
Bred by Brenton and Liz Parker, Atalanta Miss is the third winner from three
foals to race from Rory's Jester mare Our Greta, a daughter of Group I winner
Silky Oak.
