Stakes Success for Runway Star

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 9
She was the most expensive filly from the first crop of ill-fated Northern Meteor and she won her first stakes race at Morphettville on Monday making her big team of owners including Vinery Stud and associated partners very happy.

Now with Peter Moody after being previously trained by Gerald Ryan, four year-old mare Runway Star was fit and ready to fire at her third run back from a spell and produced a brisk turn of foot to win the Listed SAJC Matrice Stakes by half a length.

Runway Star as a yearlingInjured earlier in her career which resulted in the loss of her two year-old season, Runway Star now has the overall record of four wins and two seconds from 11 starts with prizemoney topping $222,000.

Runway Star runs in the green and white Vinery colours and was a $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Belmont Bloodstock from the draft of Widden Stud.

Bred by Widden Stud and partners, Runway Star is the first foal of stakes-placed Commands mare Intuit, a daughter of Group I winner Wrap Around and half-sister to the dam of Champion 2YO Fashions Afield.

The current yearling from Intuit, a Sepoy colt, will be offered by Widden Stud as Lot 450 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Intuit has a filly foal to follow by Sebring and was covered last spring by Cox Plate winner Shamus Award.

Runway Star is the 14th stakes-winner for ill-fated Northern Meteor, whose final crop of yearlings are in hot demand this year.
