Pornichet To Line Up in Doncaster Mile

Mark Smith - Saturday March 28
While Gai Waterhouse was reticent about a Doncaster Mile start for the imported Excess Knowledge (GB) following his win in the Group III Doncaster Prelude, the champion trainer had no such qualms about another import Pornichet (FR), the hugely impressive winner of Saturday's Group III Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Ridden by Blake Shinn, Pornichet came clear to defeat the Chris Waller-trained import Our Voodoo Prince (GB) by one and three-quarter lengths 1-3/4 lengths with a long head back Hawkspur in third. (photo Lisa Grimm).

"This horse is going to the Doncaster," Waterhouse declared.

"He's very exciting, I love the way Blake had him third on the fence and before the turn he just slid out and just exploded, he was the winner from the top of the straight.

"I've always had an opinion of him.

Purchased by Waterhouse after finishing third in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains at Longchamp last May, Pornichet opened his Australian account in the Group III Sandown Stakes on November 15 after performing credibly at his local debut when fourth behind subsequent Group 1 winner Hucklebuck in the Group III Yellowglen Stakes at Flemington.

The 4yo entire is a son of the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris and Group I Prix Jean Pratt winner Vespone a son of Llandaff a brother to the successful NZ based stallion Dahar.

A half-brother to four winners, Pornichet is out of the Septieme Ciel mare Porza a half-sister to multiple Group II winner Porlezza.
