Some days are diamonds and for New Zealand based Brighthill Farm, Saturday was all that and more.
On the prestigious Dubai World Cup night, progressive stayer Dolniya, a four
year old daughter of Azamour, could not have been more impressive in racing away
to win the prestigious mile and a half turf feature by two and a half lengths.Her sire, the Champion European racehorse Azamour, who has left 23 stakes winners, shuttled from The Aga Khan Studs Ireland to Brighthill Farm in 2013.
Bred and raced by HH the Aga Khan and trained by master trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre, Dolniya was suited by the strong pace in the race and won as she pleased taking her overall record to an impressive five wins and two placings from eight starts.
She outclassed a very strong field which included American Champion Main Sequence and Hong Kong superstar Designs on Rome.
With some outstanding foals on the ground from Azamour's exclusive New Zealand crop and with his first sales representatives at the Annual Weanling sales in May the timing couldn't be better.
The icing on the cake for Brighthill Farm is that Dolniya is from Daltama (Indian Ridge) who is a half-sister to resident sire Dalghar (Anabaa) as well as champions Dalakahani and Daylami.
It's no surprise that this has become one of the best families in
Europe in recent years.All of this adds to what has been a very exciting few months for Dalghar, whose first yearlings have been warmly received at sales on both sides of the Tasman this year.
Strong and athletic with many stamped in the mould of their sire, Dalghar has achieved some outstanding results in the sale ring.
His statistics read well with yearlings selling for up to $130,000 at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale and a Premier Sale average of $103,000, all from a $6,000 stud fee, but particularly satisfying is who bought his yearlings.
Some of the Australian buyers to take home Dalghar youngsters include John Chalmers, Ross Titzel, Duncan Ramage, James Cummings, Nigel Blackiston, and Anthony Cummings, while his NZ buyers are no less impressive and include Trevor and Stephen McKee, David Greene, Danica Guy, Alan Sharrock, Frank Ritchie and Donna Logan.
Between her own purchase and that of her owners, leading trainer Donna Logan will prepare three Dalghar's - two colts and one filly - so we know they will get the very best chance to succeed!
With further purchases from both Hong Kong and Singapore and his first two year olds about to start racing in Europe, exciting times lie ahead for Dalghar.
